Coral Springs Office Cleaner

What is the right floor for you and your company?

Being in the commercial cleaning business gives us the opportunity to see over time how various types of floors hold up and continue to look good or not look good over time.  This article is obviously not taking into consideration whether or not you like the look of the floor but how various types of floors hold up over time and what it costs to maintain that floor.

Vinyl – Generally vinyl floors hold up well and continue to look good if taken care of properly.  Like any floor a vinyl floor should be swept and mopped on a regular basis. Vinyl floors should have a small amount of wax on the surface which will protect it and absorb the dirt.  You will need to strip and wax a vinyl floor on an annual or semi-annual basis depending on the amount of foot traffic your floor gets.
Ceramic/Porcelain Tile – The big negative with a tile floor is there is no wax absorbing the dirt or scuff marks.  If you get a scuff mark it is in the surface and it does not always come out when doing a regular mopping of the floor. You might have to do a Tile and Grout Cleaning with a professional to get certain spots out of the floor.

Linoleum – This type of floor is popular #1 because it is generally inexpensive and easy to install.  The big negative is It is harder to maintain and to keep looking like new. The reason for that is unlike vinyl (there is no wax protecting the surface) or tile (you cannot use a floor machine to clean it like you would a ceramic or porcelain tile floor).   This just means you will not be able to clean it as aggressively as you would a either a vinyl or tile floor which in essence means it is harder to keep looking like new especially if you have a lot of foot traffic.
Polished Concrete – This is probably not a surface that is a popular as the previous surfaces but generally it will hold up well over time and is easy to maintain and to keep looking like new.

Carpet – Carpet covers more floor coverings combined in the US.  However, carpet is becoming less and less popular as it is basically a sink for dirt, dust mites, molds and pesticides residue.  Frequent vacuuming can help reduce these contaminants; however even hot water extraction does not eliminate them.
